statement of intent

Statement of intent

In my statement of intent,i require to meet the brief by doing a crime drama which be having at least 3 locations which is the corner shop, alleyway and school. The crime drama will also have a protagonist and narrative  linking to crime and the sub genres of mystery.Additionally there will a range of camera shots being used for the trailer for example tracking shot, establishing shot and medium shots throughout the trailer and I will also be using diegetic and non diegetic sound both for my coursework to make it   effective and make it be real and have suspense at the same time.

furthermore in my coursework i will be using mise en scene in showing my narrative which will be done by my costume being casual/tracksuits to show that my target audience is the youth and that the trailer is going to target youth.Additionally props like knives and guns  will show violent the drama is and how much action it has.The narrative theory of todrov’s link with it because it starts of the protagonist being happy and going into a new school then he has disequilibrium people trying to bully him and then at the end he kills the bullies which will be the villain.Additionally another theorist will also link with my trailer, named propp which talks about characters in narrative like the villain, hero  and false hero which help the audience to engage with thee narrative.

The characters will  challenge stereotypes because it will show that Asian  boys are not actually what they show they tend to be like nerds and be good at maths but they are also into criminal things such as drug dealing and knife crimes which doesn’t link  to the way they are represented in the society.Additionally the representation theory which link to  my idea will be Stuart hall as some people will have a preferred or oppositional reading of my narrative as some people will not agree with the narrative and some will not.

My target audience is family audience and that the show can be broadcast at any time of day in Channel 4 and be available to watch for them online in Netflix. The target audience that I am also aiming at will be young people as i want to make a social awareness about all of the crimes by making the parents and child watch the show together. The psychographics is aspires and and will be targeted at ages 15+.This show will have a lot of action and mystery which will keep my audience engaging in the drama and it will also link to blumler and katz theory of uses and gratifications which is personal identity and personal relationship as you can relate to the character as you can be in the Same position as him or be in the same age group as him.
My TV drama trailer will be broadcast d in you tube and you tube is one of the biggest platforms to promote your TV drama and  will be available to watch in Netflix. Netflix is the biggest online platform in which people watch their shows which means Netflix will help me in getting my audience engaged to watch it.

Research:tv drama analysis

TV drama trailer 1: Narrative and genre
How is narrative and genre communicated quickly and clearly to the audience?
In this trailer of thirteen reasons why narrative and genre are clearly communicated to us by showing us the tension that is built from the mysterious story of Hannah baker and how she killed herself. This is done thorough by the diegetic sound in the trailer and the rhetorical question being asked by the characters throughout which makes it sounds like there are a lot of reasons behind things and typically is showing how high school life is affecting young people and how bullying can lead young people to suicide and kill themselves because they feel like they are being avoided and judged by the society.furthermore the multi strand narrative is showing the stories of many characters and the secrets and mystery that they are keeping from everyone which makes the drama to be very interesting and wants the audience to binge watch the show tho find out more about how a teenage has killed herself. In addition the narrative can link to. theorist bloomers and Katz for personal relationship as it is showing the friendship of a group of people in the school and how they are keeping secrets because of their friendship.in addition the teen drama can directly link to students as people can relate to the stuff that they are watching and by watching it they can find out ways of how to overcome it.

TV drama trailer 2: Mise-en-scene
What do you notice about the use of mise-en-scene to create meanings for the audience? Think CLAMPS.

In this trailer of wild bill i can see that the mise en scene that create meanings to the audiences.this is done firstly by their costume which is smart/casual for characters which shows realism and makes everything look more realistic of having normal people in the show.in addition the police officer having their actually uniform also makes everyone alert that they are trying to make everything real.furthermore they have used both high key and low-key lighting.high lightning is used when the mood is happy and good and low key lightning is used when the character is being question by the police and something serious is taking place. This is good in showing the two separate things from the show and tells the audience when the mood is shifting. The audience in the show is Middle class people as they can. relate to this quicker and the way they like crime drama's which are with mystery and murder. The props in  the trailer like the guns, screwdriver and knifes can show the audience that this show is full of action and that the  characters are up to something which can be shown by the props.Additionally the mise en scene helps the drama too show all the stereotypical views that the audiences have by showing the costumer, props and lightning that they need have to see how this is a crime drama and how they should view it as these help them. to see how they should watch the show.

TV drama trailer 3: Camerawork
Here you are looking for particular camera shots and movement. E.g. Are close-ups used to introduce key characters to the audience? How are establishing shots used?

The trailer for Luther season 1 shows Starts with the bird eye shot of the setting and the location of which the trailer is shot in which helps show the trailer perfectly to the audience and help them able to connect to it.Additionally the closeups to all the main characters shows that the narrative is focusing on things that they are doing by making the focus of the trailer on the protagonist and all the action that is taking place with him.this  is a very normal thing that they do in trailers by focusing mainly on the the protagonist and his actions to make the audiences interact with the character and make them curious to find out more.Furthermore The trailer is only 1 minute and is quite small but shows a variety of shots from high to low angle showing how the characters are fighting between each other. which has a big effect as the camerawork .Additionally we also see a a lot of medium shots with closeups to see the significance of the scene and to understand the scene better.furthermore the tracking shots builds a lot of tension when the protagonist is wearing the props and hitting the man while he is walking, this really shows how effective camerawork is in showing the glimpse of the drama and help to engage audience to watch the drama.

TV drama trailer 4: Editing
Analyse pace, transitions, number of shots and juxtaposition e.g. eyeline matches. Does the pace speed up towards the end of the trailer?

The trailer for bodyguard is very interesting as it has used slow and fast paced and a lot of tradition. between scenes which can show they are trying to create suspense for the audience when they are watching it.furthermore at the starting  of the trailer is with a slow pace with the tracking shot  of the main character to show his. face and reveal who he is which shows a lot about the character and tells the audience about the protagonist.Furthermore the transition between scenes can show much is going in the series as all of the scenes are showing the main scenes of the narrative and the highlight of each episode of how the protagonist is trying to help the additionally this involves gunshots, fire and a lot of action which is shown by making trailer to be fast paced after introducing the bodyguard which makes the audience curious and want to watch the show to find out everything. Additionally there a lot of number of shots which show a lot of action in it which is shown by the trailer as there is blood, gunshots and car chasing in the scenes. The juxtaposition between slow. and fast paced helped them to create suspense for the audience and made them curious to watch the full show.

TV drama trailer 5: Sound
Analyse both diegetic and non-diegetic sound - music, dialogue, voiceover, SFX, background or foley sound etc.

The trailer for top boy season 3  uses both diegetic and non diegetic sound for their trailer and have a constant background music that they have throughout the whole trailer. The non diegetic sound is used at the start of the trailer with the titles and then then diegetic sound is used when the characters are being introduced and constant use of voice over during each scene with the dialogue. The diegetic sound is effective for the trailer as out shows the narrative and what takes place what the person is talking about which helps the audience to understand better about the story line.furthermore the background music is effective as it goes high and low depending. on the scene which builds tension and suspense when seeing the trailer and makes the audience watch and have an interest on the trailer.Additionally the music playing in the background throughout the trailer is effective as it flows with the dialogues and the scenes that are taking place.

TV drama trailer 6: Trailer conventions, graphics, text-on-screen etc.
Here you need to explore trailer conventions - what does this trailer have that you've spotted in all the trailers you have analysed so far? Look for things like text on screen, graphics, title, release date, social media links and more.

The trailer for power season 6  shows a lot of graphics which are being used for their trailer. This has been done by the titles coming in with the graphics at the start for the trailer showing power and the titles are designed in a big heading with grey text with a black background to highlight the show. This is effective in making the trailer look more interesting as the graphic go with the transitions between introducing the characters to make the trailer stand out.furthermore they have used a black background with  the grey
bold text in in between scenes to show the names of the producers and directors to show their significance and importance. This type of graphics helps them to establish their show and make the audience used to the graphics that they have which makes the audience know instantly that the graphics are from power.
